Though they won’t be attending college for several years, more than 200 Boston-area elementary school students will visit local colleges and universities May 3 for Science Across the City, a program designed to increase interest in science-related fields.

The event was originally scheduled to take place today but was rescheduled due to weather conditions.

Science Across the City is part of the Step UP partnership, which brings Northeastern, Boston College, Boston University, Harvard University and Tufts University together with area elementary schools in an effort to increase student achievement in education and future career opportunities. The organization offers tutoring services for students, mentors student athletes and provides for the dental and nutritional needs of children and their families. A select group of students who participated in the fair will participate in the program, giving them an opportunity to visit campuses and gain some firsthand experience in science-related fields.
